A Career in Biotechnology: Perception and Cognizance

Biotechnology is the broad area of biology, involving living systems and organisms to develop or make products, or “any technological application that uses biological systems, living organisms, or derivatives thereof, to make or modify products or processes for specific use (UN Convention on Biological Diversity, Art. 2). To make it simpler, Biotechnology is a cluster knowledge of any field of Life Science with Technology, which helps humans to live a healthy life and enhance the scientific aspire of a country.

Our country India is home to nearly 135 billion people and every year new job opportunities are coming for the young generation. The students with a combination of subjects PCB are under popular perception to opt Medical or Pharma as their career options, but these two fields are not the limit for them. There are several other opportunities, and Biotechnology is certainly one of them.

Biotechnology is a modern and interdisciplinary branch of science which is very popular among youngsters, the reason being:


It does not refer to a specific industry or job as applications of Biotechnology are vast and it paves the way to various industrial sectors like food, pharmaceutical, textiles, agriculture, animal husbandry, fermentation Industry; to name a few. The biggest advantage of choosing a career in Biotechnology

is the POTENTIAL to grow with no limits. The candidate with the right skill of Biotechnology can start their own business, they can create a product for public welfare with their innovative ideas and can be a HERO OF THE NATION. As a Biotechnology expert, a candidate will be able to improve various products related to agriculture and healthcare, which are core sectors of countries like India. Every country willing to export more finished products/goods, who doesn’t want to use the latest innovation? So, joining a world of technology (Bio-) having the essence of true Engineering with the sense of social responsibility can develop a new generation a true leader who can take forward any country to new heights.
